COTTAGE LIFE RECIPE CONTEST WINNER, 2004

FIRST PRIZE:

Barbecue Beef Rub // Rob Johnston

Ingredients  
1 1/2 tsp salt (7 ml) 1 1/2 tsp garlic powder (7 ml) 1 tspblack pepper (5 ml) 1 tspwhite pepper (5 ml) 1 tsponion powder (5 ml) 1 tspground cumin (5 ml) 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper (2 ml) 1/2 tsp paprika (2 ml) 1/4 cup butter, melted (60 ml) 4 rib-eye steaks, 1" (2.5 cm) thick
Instructions:

1. Combine all spices with the melted butter to form a paste. Spread paste over one side of steaks.
2. Place steaks on grill, paste side up, and cook over high heat for 4-5 minutes. Turn once and cook to desired doneness.
Makes 4 servings.

  1. Store leftover spice mixture in refrigerator.
