FIRST PRIZE:
Fresh Strawberry Daiquiris // Janet MacQuarrie
This recipe is easy to modify for a non-alcoholic version - simply eliminate the rum and add a little more
ice and pop to the desired thickness.
Ingredients
8 cupswater (2 L) 3 1/2 cups granulated sugar (875 ml) 4 quarts fresh strawberries, mashed (8 cups/2 L) 1 cuplemon juice (250 ml) 1 bottle rum (26 oz/750 ml)(optional) lemon-lime carbonated pop (Sprite, 7-Up)
Instructions:
1. Combine water and sugar in large saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes. Cool.
2. Mash berries. Mix with lemon juice and rum. Stir strawberry mixture into cooled syrup. Mix well. Pour into
plastic containers, cover, and freeze.
3. To serve, place several scoops of mixture into glass. Fill with pop. Stir.
Makes about 14 cups (3.5 L) frozen mixture.
Cottage Tips:
- Replace strawberries with raspberries for another drink sensation.
