Announcing the 2008 recipientsWe were inspired by the recipients of our second annual Green Cottager Awards. They powerfully exemplify the notion of stewardship, recognizing with their words and actions that the lakes, rivers, and forests where we cottage need our help now more than ever to remain environmentally healthy. Our judges were impressed by each one of the entries, from cottagers all over Canada who are making significant efforts to improve their cottaging habits and to educate themselves and others on issues ranging from water quality to forest management, with a view to preserving precious places for future generations. The awards for outstanding achievement go to the Kawartha Lake Stewards Association (Group) and, posthumously, to Stanley Topping of Georgian Bay’s South Channel (Individual/Family). The judges also chose four entries for Awards of Merit: Doug Ingram and Petra Hartwig as individuals and The Bella-Rebecca Community Association and the Baptiste Lake Association in the group category. All of these award recipients were honoured at the Spring Cottage Life Show, on Saturday, March 29, 2008. Cottage Life donated $2,500 to the cottaging-related environmental cause of each outstanding achiever’s choice. It’s our way of acknowledging our own commitment to the environment, and congratulating our award winners for walking the green talk and inspiring others to do the same.
