Cottage Life wins 2009 Eco Award
Congratulations to our circulation manager, Heather Maxwell-Tufford, on winning the 2009 Eco Award for
Print Promotion from the
Circulation Management Association of Canada.
Here are some of the ways Cottage Life has gone green:
- Cottage Life magazine is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled, FSC-Certified ancient-forest-friendly paper
- Our sister publication, explore, was the first glossy magazine in North America to use 100% post-consumer recycled, FSC-Certified ancient-forest-friendly paper
- Cottage Life sponsors the annual Green Cottager Awards to cottagers and groups who are making a difference
- Our May 2008 issue was dedicated to green cottaging
- We published the Green Cottaging Guide in 2007
-
At our office:
- we use soaps and cleaning products from our friends at EcoEthic
- we've installed programmable thermostats
- we've installed aerators on our faucets and fixed any leaky taps
-
when replacing pot lights, we use compact fluorescents
- we use the double-sided setting on our printers whenever possible, and reuse paper that's only been printed on one side
- we're moving from paper filing to digital filing
- we have a full in-office recycling and organics program
- we encourage our employees to ride their bikes to work by providing a secure bicycle lock-up and shower facilities
- computers are powered down when not in use
- we've installed less wasteful modular carpet from Interface on our third floor, which eventually will fill the whole building
