How to whip a rope into shape

When your lines start to fray, whipping the ends with twine will get everything looking ship-shape in no time.

Step 1

Lay a loop of whipping twine close to the end of a twisted or braided line. Wrap tightly, working away from the bitter, or tail, end.

Step 2

When the length of the whipping is about the same as the diameter of the rope, thread the twine through the loop.

Step 3

Pull on the bitter end of the twine to draw the loop snugly under the whipping (it should be very tight) and snip off the ends of the twine.
