Aquascreen® applications work by compressing the aquatic weeds into a stressed configuration and screening out 50% to 60% of sunlight. Natural bacterial decomposition then takes place, but the net allows gas to escape, preventing new weed growth. The principle is so simple it's obvious: the mesh is fine enough to prevent weeds from growing but coarse enough to allow for gas exchange and microorganism movement between sediment and water, thus allowing life to be maintained in the sediment.
