Cottage Life nominated for 11 National Magazine Awards, wins 2
Cottage Life won twice in the 2008 National Magazine Awards: David Zimmer and Jane Rodmell won a
gold in the how-to category for our Grill Guide to Great Chicken, and our art director Kim Zagar, won a
silver for art direction for an entire issue (October
2008). We were also nominated nine times in other categories, including service: lifestyle, words and
pictures, homes and gardens, and photojournalism and service essays. Congratulations to all of the other
winners and nominees.

Meet the editor

Penny Caldwell
Editor, Cottage Life Magazine
Penny Caldwell has been writing for Cottage Life since its inception in 1988 and been an editor
with the magazine since 1991. She was appointed editor-in-chief in 2000.
A long-time cottager with a passion for boating, Penny spends as much time as she can on the water at her
family’s off-grid, solar-powered, water-access cottage on Georgian Bay. She’s joined there by her husband,
two teenagers, and a golden retriever named Taylor, who appeared on the cover of Cottage Life
magazine’s special issue in 2002 celebrating the cottage canine.
