Man dies in paddleboarding accident near Huntsville, Ont.

A 65-year-old man from Thornhill, Ont. is dead after he fell off a paddleboard on Harp Lake near Huntsville. The man went missing around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 3, 2023.

Together, OPP, cottagers, members of the Lake of Bays fire department, and the Muskoka paramedic service searched the area and were unable to find him. Six hours later, the OPP underwater search and recovery unit found his body.

Paddleboarding has exploded in popularity in recent years in large part because of the accessible price point and also because it has a low barrier to entry. However, a lack of education about water safety has led to an increase in accidental deaths across North America. Read more here.
